プロジェクト紹介

Five public transportation companies, including one railway company, one regional bus service company, and three municipal public transportation companies, have formed a partnership that offers a new electronic ticketing payment system for trains, buses, trams, metros, and ferries in the Netherlands. Together, the five transportation companies serve 80% of the Netherlands' public transportation market.

The creation of an integrated e-ticketing system that combines controlled access to stations and detailed analysis of e-ticketing data is expected to achieve the following objectives:

System Description

The scope of the partnership is to implement and operate the central processes of the system, and to set up rules to ensure the interoperability between the various local processes and the central process. Suppliers from various local regions supply the equipment and electronic identifiers. As users of Moxa's Ethernet Solution, the individual public transportation companies are free to use additional equipment and identifiers for other regions, provided there are no problems with interoperability between the local and central processes. In other words, the e-ticketing system must be set up in a way that respects the freedom of each public transportation company to store its own traffic data, maintain its own customer relationships, and set its own tariffs, routes, and zones. Moxa's industrial Ethernet products provide a complete solution that meets these requirements.

There are forty-six remote train/bus stations in the system that together use a total of 192 units of the high performance network Ethernet switch, ED6008-MM-SC. The switch supports redundant ring, automatic e-mail warning, and web browser management functions for handling huge numbers of passengers. To extend the transmission distance of the network, the system integrator for the project chose Moxa's IMC-101-M-SC Ethernet-to-fiber media converter. The converter's rugged design and high MTBF value of 810000 hours provides reliable and stable operation in harsh railway environments. Moxa's industrial grade networking products help ensure that the e-ticketing system is reliable.
